About the organization
Founded in 2012, Haven Dog Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to saving and improving animal lives in the Greater Sacramento area. We are proud to work in partnership with area shelters and rescue dogs that would otherwise not be adoptable. We are an entirely volunteer-run organization made up of people who have a passion for saving dogs.
#MatchMadeInHaven
Our goal with every dog is to find the perfect family match so that they are lovingly cared for the rest of their lives. Please consider making a donation today to assist our efforts and save more dogs in the greater Sacramento area. Your donation dollars provide medical care for sick or injured dogs, supports dog training (when necessary), and funds their general care while they are with us
While we do not have a physical facility, our dogs are cared for in loving foster homes where they receive the individual attention and care they need.
As a foster-based rescue, we are always in need of new foster homes to provide a safe space for dogs in transition. Our dogs are fully vetted, and we take pride in being able to share detailed information about their personalities, behaviors, likes, and dislikes with potential adopters. This helps ensure that the right dog finds the right home.
We rely on adoption fees (typically between $300 and $350, with a reduced fee for senior dogs) and the generosity of our supporters to fund our efforts. Your donations help cover the cost of veterinary care, food, and other expenses, allowing us to continue providing the care and attention our dogs need.
We are always looking for volunteers to foster, and we encourage anyone interested in adopting to fill out an application and follow up with a call if you haven’t heard back. Thank you for considering adopting from Haven Dog Rescue. Your support is vital to our mission, and we are deeply grateful for every adoption, donation, and volunteer effort that helps us continue our work.
Follow us on Facebook or Instagram and share our fundraisers to help us rehabilitate and find homes for these wonderful dogs.
Thank you for helping us give these dogs a brighter future! 🐾
who we are
We are so grateful to all our volunteers and foster families that support our efforts. We could not save as many animals as we do, without you!
Growing up in Ireland, I was a troubled teen, and a major pain in the ass. I struggled early on with addiction, low self esteem and a massive helping of self hate. My favourite friends were always dogs. They provided a lesson in unconditional love that I missed in my earlier life.
In 2014 I got the 501c3 for our small rescue in Sacramento CA. The rescue has been a blessing to me in more ways than I ever thought possible. It helped me stay in recovery thus allowing my learning to continue against my own will.
Today I can safely say the following....
My life has purpose and fulfillment.
My heart understands fully what unconditional love means today. I never thought that would happen.
I'm still a major pain in the ass but a much more agreeable one. (I'm a work in progress)
I remain in contact with like minded people despite my best efforts to isolate.
I have a tad more patience and tolerance each day, so my growth continues, despite my natural position of isolation.
This is proof that who rescued who argument is a valid and ongoing one. LOL
Thank you all for allowing me to be of service, despite my character defects.

I can’t imagine a life without a home (and yard) full of furry friends. Growing up, my family always took in wounded or stray animals which taught me empathy, kindness and unconditional love. My first dog as an adult, was of course a rescue. Buddy was a greyhound lab mix, and at 6 months old, he had already gone to multiple different foster homes because of his behavior issues (he loved the taste of shoes and anything else he could grab!). I worked with him and he soon became my best friend who would end up following me across the country a few times, was by my side through two divorces and many other losses. Today, he remains in my heart and is what drove me to volunteer with Haven Dog Rescue. If I can give more dogs like Buddy a second chance, it would make me so happy and I can feel like I lived a purposeful life.
